1968 was Denny Hulme's first Can-Am championship year. He won three of six events, and finished second at one other. Over the course of the original Can-Am's nine years, The Bear won 22 events total, far more than anyone else in the Big Bore era.

Laguna Seca means "dry lake," but it was very wet the day John Cannon scored his famous upset Can-Am victory. He started way back in the pack (just visible near the tree in the upper right), but his old-fashioned McLaren had a modern secret: the only Firestone rain tires available that day. In a very few laps he simply drove by everyone into the lead, and won! The picture at right shows him peering around the last corner of the last lap, hardly able to believe he's done it.
