McLaren's domination rolled on ... but without Bruce, who lost his life in a testing accident just before the season. To fill his seat the Kiwis brought in the best man they knew, Dan Gurney. He promptly won the first two races before a sponsorship conflict forced him to step out. Meanwhile, Denny "The Bear" Hulme recovered from painful hand burns suffered at Indianapolis and, backed by new partner Peter Gethin, won enough races to clinch his 2nd Can-Am championship -- McLaren's 4th in a row.
